Good News
Congratulations to Mr Darren Smith, our STEM HOLA, on his appointment to GiST’s Educator Working Group. GiST, the Girls in Stem Toolkit, provides innovative and engaging teaching resources to inspire girls within the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through this position, Darren will be able to use his expertise to enhance STEM outcomes for girls across the country.
It was Darren’s creative and contemporary approaches to STEM teaching, his technical skills, and passion for encouraging all young people into the world of STEM which saw him selected for the group. As the only male appointee to the group, and as a parent to a daughter, Darren feels a strong responsibility to champion equality and address the gender gaps in STEM fields. He says, “I want all girls to feel they can achieve in STEM both at school and further on into their working lives”.
The GiST Toolkit project is supported by the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources. More information can be found at: https://www.thegist.edu.au/
