Some of our Year 9 students might be joining the ranks of Elon Musk and Melanie Perkins after taking part in the Start Up 101 Competition from Generation Entrepreneur. This project-based event saw the students develop their creativity, critical thinking and leadership skills, as they worked in teams to design their own unique entrepreneurial endeavour. Each team was supported by a mentor via WebEx, and each team hoped that their business plan would impress the judges.
Southern River College was one of only three public schools within Western Australia hand-picked to participate in this exciting competition. We certainly stepped up to the challenge. Throughout the day the students came up with great ideas, which were transformed into solid business plans. Two teams, Coda and Dream Devices, were selected to move forward into the next exciting round.
Mr Esmond Ye, Chief Executive Officer of Generation Entrepreneur, said “today was one of the greatest displays of youth entrepreneurship, leadership and camaraderie that I’ve seen in a very long time.…today’s session with your students was extra special.”
