Writing

Writers’ Club
Our Writers’ Club is a fabulous way for students to develop their creative writing skills in a safe, supportive and social environment. Every Thursday at recess and lunchtime, students can come into the library and get assistance with their writing whether it be a short story, Great Australian novel, or poetic work. They also have access to a private online forum to share their work, access writing exercises and find helpful tips.

SRC Student Voice
Each term, the Writers’ Club produces a school Newspaper. The newspaper is a collection of news, opinion and creative works, all created by the students at Southern River College.

Term 1, 2018; Issue 01

Writing Competitions
We encourage and support our students to enter the following writing competitions:

John Marsden Writing Competition
The 2018 John Marsden & Hachette Australia Prize for Young Writers will be open for submissions in April 2018. Open to Australian secondary school students across the nation, the prize recognises excellence in three creative writing categories: fiction, nonfiction (true stories told in a clever and inspiring way) and poetry. For more information, visit: http://expressmedia.org.au/programs/john-marsden-prize/

Southern River College Writing Competition
Calling all writers! The Southern River College Writing Competition will be calling for entries soon. Students from years 7 – 12 are invited to submit a creative piece of written work. It can be a short story, a piece of poetry, a picture book or a mini graphic novel. The only rule is that there cannot be more than 4 pages of writing!  For more information, see the librarians. Great prizes to be won.
